HE Interior Minister attends event to launch Customs strategy

His Excellency Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa attended the ceremony to mark the International Customs Day and the launch of the Customs Strategy 2017-20 on Thursday.

The event was attended by the Deputy Interior Minister, the Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, the Chief of Public Security and the Interior Ministry Undersecretary.

The launched strategy was designed to meet the goals of the Economic Vision 2030 and the government action plan as well as the policies of the World Customs Organisation for the future.

It was formulated as a result of scientific and practical studies that met work requirements and set the framework for customs operations by focusing on a number of principles, including documentation and transparent procedures.

HE the Interior Minister appreciated the Customs Affairs for facilitating traffic and promoting trade and economic growth.

He also applauded the strategy to implement plans followed by customs officials and employees to achieve goals.

HE the Interior Minister invited customs staff to come up with initiatives and recommendations to improve the customs operations as part of professional partnership. He also affirmed the importance of continuing to develop customs by implementing the strategy to improve the performance levels. He also thanked the Customs President and his team for developing the Customs Affairs and launching the strategy that would be the basis and a turning point for growth.

Customs President Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa in a speech thanked HE the Interior Minister for his support, highlighting that the strategy focused on improving the capability of the customs personnel, excellence in client services and meeting the government’s expectations.

He said the strategy had been designed in association of all customs departments to develop operational procedures to meet the future requirements and create a balance between facilitation of travel, check illegal trade and reinforce security.

He praised the Customs Affairs role in fulfilling customs missions.  

He said the Customs Affairs hoped to achieve its goals by 2020 by improving the skills of its manpower to ensure sustainable development.

During the ceremony, a documentary on the Customs Affairs strategy and goals was also screened. HE the Interior Minister honoured a number of organisations with direct relations with the Customs Affairs and the members of the work team which had worked the strategy. He wished them the best in serving the nation.
