Customs President: 355 drug hauls in Q1 of 2016
26th June, 2016

Customs President Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa said on Sunday that drugs were seized in 355 cases in the first quarter of 2016 at the land, air and sea borders.

He said this showed the importance of the Customs Affairs in fighting drug trafficking while highlighting the role of community partnership reinforced by His Excellency the Interior Minister to control drug-related issues.

Speaking while Bahrain celebrated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, he said that customs officers worked hard to prevent the entry of banned items. He also praised cooperation between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in arresting traffickers and violators moving across King Fahad Causeway.

He said that the association of the Anti-narcotics Directorate in the annual exhibition of the Customs Affairs to mark the World Customs Day was meant to improve awareness among parents and the bodies concerned. He also highlighted the Customs Affairs keenness to improve the efficiency of its workforce and provide the latest high-tech devices.
