Customs Affairs holds workshop on drug prevention

Under the patronage of President of Customs Major-General Basim bin Yaqoob Al Hamar, the Customs Training Institute at the Custom Affairs has organised a workshop on drug prevention in association with the UN Development Office in Bahrain. International experts from the Dubai Police also took part in the workshop.

In his opening speech Major-General Al Hamar said the workshop was part of the national project for drug prevention, which has been highly emphasised by HE the Minister of Interior.

The workshop is considered the first of its kind related to drug prevention which aims to create a specialised international team in the field of drug prevention. The team consists of representatives from various directorates and sections of the Ministry of Interior such as the Custom Affairs, the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science and the Community Police in addition to the Kingdom's governorates.

The Customs President said that such courses helped to evaluate and develop the security and monitoring required to check human-trafficking and drug abuse in the community.

The Deputy Representative of the UN Regional Programme in Bahrain Mr Firas Guraibah in a speech thanked the Ministry of Interior and the Dubai Police for their participation in the workshop and stressed the importance of supporting such workshops.

The International Training Director at the Dubai Police Major Ahmed Al Saadi in a speech praised the cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Dubai Police and stressed the importance of such courses that aimed to deploy the latest hi-tech equipment in drug prevention efforts.
