Custom Facilities
|
|
The Customs Affairs provides several facilities at individual and business community levels. Such facilities include:
- Effective 1st January 2005, all Arab original products which are imported under the facilitation and trade exchange convention among Arab countries are reciprocally exempted from customs duties on producing a recognized certificate of origin. However, all types of tobacco, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages are excluded from such exemption.
- Customs formalities pertaining to gold, jewellery, diamonds and high-priced precious stones, including assessment and clearance, are processed at the customs inlet concerned
- Under the imminent computerized customs clearance, the Customs Affairs will be linked to transportation companies, importers, exporters, clearing offices, banks and all Ministries concerned. This will lead to a quantitative improvement in clearing activity in a very cost-effective manner.
- The customs duties payment system is being developed to include direct payment through banks. On the introduction of computerization, such duties may be paid online through bank networks.
- Transit goods through Bahrain are exempted from customs duties.
- The customs duties already paid on imported foreign goods are refunded on exporting such goods under the supervision of the customs and subject to the established rules and regulations.
- Bonded stores may be established under the control of the customs. A merchant may store foreign goods in such stores for an unlimited period without customs duties, as per the terms and conditions agreed with the customs. Such goods may be re-exported without customs duties and may be sold at the local market on payment of customs duties.
- All GCC origin products are duty-free
- Exempted from customs duties are the products of the Arab countries which have signed bilateral agreements with Bahrain, under the terms and conditions agreed. Such Arab countries include Jordan, Syria and Tunisia.
- Direct delivery service is available round the clock to the merchants' locations. This is to ensure the safety of the goods and to save the time and efforts of importers.
- Certain goods, such as equipment and machinery, are allowed into Bahrain on a temporary basis against a bank guarantee or cash deposit which is refunded on exporting the goods.
- The customs provides ongoing services for exhibitors at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre. Customs services are available round the clock during exhibitions. Exhibition items are delivered as soon as possible and with minimum formalities and documentation. The Kingdom of Bahrain is a signatory to the World Customs Organization's Customs Convention concerning facilities for the importation of goods for display at exhibitions, signed in Brussels in 1961.
- The customs provides several facilities for investors in the Bahrain International Airport and Mina Salman duty-free markets to encourage sales at these facilities.
